Tom Ford New York Fashion Week 2018
When Tom Ford does something, you know it is going to be Fucking Fabulous. This happens to be the name of his new fragrance, which came with the invitations of the Spring 2018 Ready-to-Wear fashion show. The designer returns to New York Fashion Week after a year of absence, in which he directed his second movie Nocturnal Animals.
Tom Ford’s Signature 90s Glam
The new collection takes off from where he left in his Gucci days. The collection has his signature 90s glam written all over it. A classic and beautifully tailored collection, but with a rock and roll glamorous feeling to it.
The show opened and closed with Binx Walton, Ford’s muse, who walked on the beats of David Bowie’s ‘Fame’. A legend designer collection accompanied by a legend rock star. Who better than David Bowie to set a cool 90s atmosphere to the show? The collection showed power shoulders, glitter, leather track suits, parka’s and the occasional neon. Tom Ford was not afraid to sent his models down the runway without pants, but with glitter underwear. Just like David Bowie would have done. The combination of glitter, leather, power shoulders and a little bit of naked, reminds of the 90s answer to the Saint Laurent Fall 2017 collection.
Spring 2018 Looks
There are a few major looks we can spot from the Tom Ford Ready-to-Wear fashion show for spring 2018. Color-wise we can look forward to yellow, purple and neon colors as well as dark unwashed denim. A nice contrast to the light blue denim that has been dominating fashion for years. This was shown in cool oversized denim on denim looks. Super wearable and we can bet on this look to be spotted on celebrities and this season’s street style. Also, a lot of sequined draped dresses to really dress up at night. Tom Ford really understands how people dress in contemporary culture, we only dress up at night. During the day time its yoga pants and tracksuits, it’s about being comfortable. He managed to pay a tribute to the glamorous nineties while doing it in a contemporary way. So now we can enjoy neon tracksuits as well as tailored David Bowie-like white suits.
